Event Details

On August 21, for the first time in 99 years, a total solar eclipse will be visible coast-to-coast across the United States. Its “path of totality” will be about 70 miles wide, stretching from Oregon to South Carolina. It is also the first total solar eclipse visible in any part of the U.S. since 1979.

Be ready for this once-in-a-lifetime treat with a program on eclipses by Dr. Shane Larson, research associate professor of physics at Northwestern University and an astronomer at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Dr. Larson works in the field of gravitational wave astrophysics, specializing in studies of compact stars, binaries, and the galaxy. He is an award-winning teacher and a fellow of the American Physical Society. Sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library.
