Visiting Professor: Ellen Green on Industrial Archaeology in London

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Glencoe Public Library
Hammond Room

What can digging up an old mill tell us about the evolution of a London suburb? After the Renaissance, England underwent dramatic changes; it was torn apart by civil war and the industrial revolution created a paradigm shift which can still be seen today. These changes left evidence in the archaeological record, and even something as small as a single mill complex in what was then the outskirts of London tells a story of dynamic evolution. Ellen Green, a field archaeologist for Pre-Construct Archaeology, returns to discuss recent excavations in Tottenham, London, and how we can build a picture of a rapidly changing country from the ruins left behind. Sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library.
