Having trouble finding your focus? Let this year’s Summer Reading Club, Read 20/20 in 2020, keep you on track!  Just complete 20 days of reading this summer and you’ll earn a free book. Each participant can earn up to two book rewards for reading done between June 1–August 31. 

There are two ways to participate:  
Stay tuned for how to present your log to claim your prizes later in the summer.

In grades 4 or up? Log into Beanstack or create a new account to discover bonus activities. Complete bonus activities for a chance to win gift cards to local businesses!

Summer Reading Club for Adults

Sun or shade? Hammock or lawn chair? Choose your favorite setting and luxuriate in good books with the encouragement of "Book Time Outdoors," our summer reading club for adults.

As always, there will be prizes and lists of reading suggestions (a link to the lists will be posted here June 2 or 3). To participate, you can either use the paper reading log that was included in the June edition of Excerpts (mailed to all Glencoe households and also available on our website under "Library News") OR you can register by emailing the Readers' Services desk at radesk@glencoepubliclibrary.org. Just read six books of your choice within the club dates (June 1-August 31) and you'll win a prize! There also will be weekly drawings for gift cards to local businesses.

Visits are for family groups or individuals to browse the 2nd floor children’s collection, get book suggestions or assistance with library materials, and to check in for Summer Reading. Internet computers, games, toys, puzzles, coloring sheets, and scavenger hunts are not available at this time. 

  • Arrive during your scheduled 30 minutes. You will be admitted at any time during your scheduled visit slot
  • All family members over the age of 2 must be wearing face coverings during their visit
  • If you arrive outside of the time slot for your scheduled visit, you may be asked to wait if the area you wish to visit is at capacity
  • Visitors are encouraged to wash hands in the mezzanine restroom before entering the children’s department
  • Please bring strollers upstairs into the children’s area during your visit, do not park on the first floor
  • A check out station is available in the Children’s Department to reduce queuing on the first floor.

Finished your 20 days of reading and ready to celebrate? Put on your mask and drop in to our Celebration Station outside the library’s front entrance to turn in your log and pick up your prizes. Shop the Book Bike for a free paperback and get a bag full of goodies to go with it.

Haven’t started your Summer Reading yet? Drop by to pick up a log and get ready to read!

The Celebration Station is weather permitting. We will be closed on July 4.

Please join Susan Benjamin for a Zoom discussion of Luce.  A thoughtful drama that is very much a film for our times, Luce is a high school student from Eritrea, adopted from the war-torn country a decade earlier.  The popular and accomplished student alarms his parents and history teacher when he chooses as a subject of a writing assignment a political revolutionary who advocated violence against colonial powers.  You'll need to watch the film beforehand.
