From Cornbread to Keith Haring to Banksy, street artists regularly make headlines, and their influence on art, fashion, design, advertising, and popular culture continues to grow. Less well known is the history and meaning behind the graffiti art form. To increase your appreciation for it or simply to enjoy its energy, join us for a virtual tour of Amsterdam’s enormous new STRAAT Museum. 

Opened in 2020, STRAAT’s 150-plus works are housed in a former ship shed on the NDSM shipbuilding wharf. The artworks were created in and especially for the museum by over 130 artists, including some of the biggest international names as well as up-and-coming talent. Most of these impressive visual experiences are as large as the murals in the wild. 

David Roos, curator and creative director of STRAAT, will discuss the museum’s founding and collection, the stories behind the works, and the history of street art. He firmly believes that learning more about the graffiti art form will encourage you to take a fresh look at your surroundings. Presented in partnership by the Glencoe Public Library and the Highland Park Public Library.
