Why are intimacy and bling, particularly rings, so often connected? Why do rings appear time and again in stories about marriage and adultery, love and betrayal, loss and recovery, identity and masquerade? Wendy Doniger (B.A. Radcliffe, summa cum laude, Ph. D., Harvard University; D. Phil., Oxford University) was a full professor in the Divinity School at the University of Chicago from 1978 to 2018 and is the author of many translations of Sanskrit texts as well as books about Hindu mythology and cross-cultural mythology, particularly about illusion, animals, gender and sex, including The Ring of Truth and Other Myths of Sex and Jewelry. Her most recent books are After the War: The Last Books of the Mahabharata (2022) and An American Girl in India: Letters from 1963-64 (2022).
