VIRTUAL Big Books: The Sound and the Fury

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Glencoe Public Library

Event Details

Our three-week summer discussion series will delve into William Faulkner’s novel The Sound and the Fury. In his acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize, Faulkner argued that good writing can only come from a focus on “the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself.” Indeed, The Sound and the Fury holds such conflicts--and promises to challenge us intellectually and morally.

Leading our discussion will be Barbara Joyce, who’s taught English at New Trier for 18 years. She has led previous summer Big Books discussions on Anton Chekhov, Virginia Woolf, and Edith Wharton.

Registration for this Zoom-based series opens June 1. Space is limited and Glencoe residents will get priority if the class fills up. Big Books is sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library.
